Town Hall Pep Rally
Earlier this week, an alum from the St. Perpetua class of 1976, came by the school to go through our photo archives in preparation for their 40th St. Perpetua class reunion.  She was amazed by improvements to our school facilities.  We are all beneficiaries of vision, generosity, and dedication from so many graduated families.  It is easy to lose sight of how much has been accomplished in the last decade or so.  Now it is our turn to impact the future! Tomorrow a letter from Fr. John and myself with updates on our progress with the Capital Campaign and Community Center will be coming home with your student; please look for it!

We look forward to celebrating Halloween on Monday with our traditional Halloween parade at 11:00am.  Please remember that all costumes must be appropriate for school.  Students will be expected to sit in their desks for the first part of the day.  Weapons, explicitly gory make up, group costumes, and revealing costumes are not allowed.  It is a noon dismissal and there is NO afternoon Panther House.  Thank you for cooperation!

4th Grade Saints table
'Guess the Name"
Our 4th grade is preparing our Eucharistic celebration forTuesday, November 1 ~ All Saints Day.  We hope you can join us for 8:30 Mass.

Next Friday is our Disaster Drill.  We will practice all aspects of our Emergency Plan including evacuation of the school.  ALL students need to be picked up between 11:00-11:45.  Adults picking up students MUST be listed on the emergency form, show valid ID  and complete and bring the Disaster Drill Dismissal Form before students will be released.  The form can be found here.  Practicing this drill annually is extremely helpful to all our entire staff. There is NO afternoon Panther House.  Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation.

A Prayer For Halloween
We thank you
for your many blessings,
in particular for
all the holy men and women
we celebrate on All Saints Day.
Help us to contemplate
their holiness
on this eve of that holiday.
And may your protection
be upon all those
involved in Halloween festivities
during this night.
We pray in Jesus name. Amen.

Office News
Annual Disaster Drill
We will hold our Annual Disaster Drill on Friday, November 4th.  Although we hope to never need to implement these procedures, it is imperative that we all review and practice the various aspects of the plan.  On that day students are picked up between 11:00 and 11:45 in the new plaza area at the end of school building near the cross walk.  Click here for the Emergency Drill student release form that you can fill out in advance and BRING TO DISASTER DRILL PICK-UP.
Students will only be released to those listed on their student profile and ALL adults MUST show their ID.  If someone other than the parent or another person already on your Emergency/Authorized Pick-up list will be picking up your child on the day of the Disaster Drill, please email the office with that authorized person's name. Panther House is closed that afternoon so that we can review drill as an entire staff.
Strep Alert
There have been cases of strep throat in multiple grades.  If your child is complaining of a sore throat with abdominal pain or vomiting, we are hearing (in most cases) that the illness is strep throat.   Please be advised that if your child has tested positive for strep, they cannot come back to school until they have been on medication and fever-free for 24 hours.

Scrip Purchases
Our school community works diligently to generate Scrip profit.  We are asking that purchases be paid by check or cash whenever possible to avoid credit card fees.

Yard Duty Sign-Ups
Deb Sitzmann, our yard duty coordinator, will be reviewing all yard duty sign-ups during the next week to ensure that all families have signed up for their two required yard duty shifts.  If you have not yet signed up for your shifts you can do so here

Our new school website is live!  Log on and bookmark www.stperpetuaschool.org to see our new look! Teachers and staff will be updating and modifying content over the next few weeks. Key information is available on the new site and our previous website will soon be inactive.
Medications at School
If your child takes medications (prescription or non-prescription) that need to be kept on campus, you will need to bring the medications (in the original container) as well as the 'Request for medication to be taken during school hours' form on the school website. Please be aware that if the medicine is a prescription, a doctor's signature is also required on the form.
School Events for Parents
Each year, St. Perpetua School offers a parent education night to assist parents with navigating the ever-changing world of technology.
On October 27th at 6:30pm, we will be hosting a screening of the documentary,"Screenagers:  Growing Up in the Digital Age".  This movie explores the affects and impact of various types of screen time in our society.  I was able to attend a viewing of Screenagers a few weeks ago and I strongly encourage all Jr. High parents to attend.  Please let me know if you have any questions. Here is a link to the trailer for your review.

Share the news!
If you are still in touch with your preschool or know a family with preschool-aged children, let them know about this exciting event!
Taste of Kindergarten is a very special event that St. Perpetua offers our community several times a year.  Our first session is on Friday, November 4th.  For admission to the 2017-2018 school year, we will also be offering a second session on January 20, 2017.
Incoming transitional kindergarten and kindergarten age children and their parent(s) are invited to get a taste of kindergarten for a morning!  Enjoy a casual conversation with the school principal and staff, discussing our kindergarten program and common topics including kindergarten readiness, emotional maturity, creating smooth transitions and more. Parents will then accompany their children into the St. Perpetua School kindergarten classroom, under the supervision of our teaching staff, to experience a short lesson and project. You are invited to visit Cafe St. Perpetua and enjoy fresh baked goods, made from our local garden ingredients, and freshly brewed coffee. School tour provided and parents are given time to socialize. Parents must remain on campus during this special event. You will need to register for this free event!  Please register here.

St Perpetua Outreach committee is hosting a "Share the Warmth" event the weekend ofNov 5 & 6th.   There will be a collection of all warm winter things: coats, hats, mittens, sox, sweatshirts, sweaters, boots, blankets, comforters, bedspreads, flannel sheets, sleeping bags - even tents & tarps!
Sizes are needed from infant to adult - especially children's items as they grow so quickly same as our own do!!
Items can be brought on Nov 4, 5 or 6 and put near the doors of the church hall
Some of the organizations that will benefit from these warm items:
  • Friendly Manor Oakland - women
  • Hillcrest Community Church - clothes closet in Pleasant Hill
  • No One Left Behind - refugees from Afghanistan:  these men worked as interpreters for the U.S Government in Afghanistan so were no longer safe & had to leave their country.  Each family member was only allowed one 50# suitcase, so not a lot of possessions to start new life in US.  Many children are in need of warm coats & twin size blankets
  • Trinity Center - Walnut Creek
  • White Pony Express - serving East Bay
  • Winter Nights
  • Youth Homes - Lafayette
Thank you for your help.
Any questions, please call Karen Rose Kalvass at 925.284.8130.
