2018 - 2019 final Bulletin # 7

Thank you to all who helped to make our Tee Off for Technology Golf Tournament so successful on Monday!

The Golf Committee, lead by Sean Sabarese, did an outstanding job coordinating all the various components of this day! We appreciated the volunteers, the golfers, and sponsors for their support of this event, which will enhance the technology programs throughout the school!

Congratulations to our newly elected student leadership team:
President: Luke McGuinness
Vice President: Rowan Moffett
Communications: Tatum Haggerty
Spirit: Anna Mollahan

Our morning drop off is going very well! Thank you, parents, for your assistance in making sure students are exiting from the right side of the car and for pulling all the way forward to ensure we don't back up onto Hamlin Rd.

  • Please remember at dismissal time that the reserved spots in the school parking lot are intended for those who might struggle with the walk from the upper lot.
  • At 3:00 students will be dismissed to the classroom of the youngest in the family or carpool.
  • Parents/Guardians need to come to that classroom and the teacher will dismiss from there.
  • No student should be outside of the building without an adult.
  • Thank you for your cooperation!

God of all seasons, we thank you for Autumn.
We thank you for the touch of coolness in the air that gives us a new burst of energy,
for the coloring of trees that shows the creativity of the Divine Artist,
for the falling leaves that reveal the strength of the branches,
for the hues of fields that bring peace to our souls,
for the smiles on pumpkins that bring joy to children,
for the fall harvest which that brings us gratitude for the bounty of our land,
for this change of seasons that reveals the circle of life.
God of all seasons, as you transform the earth, transform us by your Spirit.

Amen
- Doug Leonhardt, S.J.

Come learn how to pray while singing at the top of your lungs to music led by teens from Miramonte, Campolindo, Acalanes, De La Salle, and Carondelet High School. Come talk and share with teens and young adults who have been right where you are now. What are you waiting for? Join us!!   Link to more info here!

The Counselor's Corner
As I mentioned in the last Counselor's Corner, one of the most important things for students to learn is how to advocate for themselves. Part of advocating for themselves means advocating for their personal growth and realizing what areas they would like to improve in (academically, socially, physically, spiritually or emotionally).

In part of my first classroom lesson to the 5th through 8th graders this year, I described a tool called WOOP (Wish-Outcome-Obstacles-Plan). Although the students have only been briefly introduced to this concept, we will be using it all year. WOOP is a tool that has been scientifically proven to help people reach their goals. This is a method that you can also use and model for your kids.

See this website for more information about the benefits of and how to use WOOP.

If you have a 5th through 8th grader, ask them more about WOOP. If they're able to explain it to you - that will help them with truly understanding it as well. (And/or watch this video with them to refresh their memory).
~   ~  ~
TK-4th graders can learn to use WOOP as well. Feel free to introduce this to your whole family and WOOP it up with them!

(I learned about WOOP (and many other wonderful lessons) from an online class I took last Spring. I highly recommend this FREE online Yale course for all parents and educators.

Please be sure to complete a Counselor Permission Form for this year to give your student the option to reach out to me as needed. And, as always, feel free to contact me anytime.

We are all one race - the human race, and we all deserve respect and dignity, and the ability to feel safe in our world. Our hope is for our school community to grow in a peaceful and safe world, where people understand the wealth in love and generosity.
Come in on this Friday afternoon and help us celebrate peace and love with a peace craft project and write a colorful "peace is..." poetry display for all to share. Please email ahead about attendance if Friday is not already on your calendar.

Birthday Club
Join the Library's Birthday Club to celebrate your child's birthday and foster a love of reading.  For a donation of $20 per child, families can help to support the library.  Click here for form.

This is the way we raise funds to purchase new books that the kids want to read.  Each Birthday Club student gets to select a new book to purchase for the library.  A commemorative label will be placed in the front of the book with the child's name and birthday (not the year).  When the book arrives, the Birthday Club student checks out the book first and gets to keep it as long as s/he wants.  Regardless of when your child's birthday is, we collect funds in September and purchase Birthday Club books in October for everyone.  This allows us to enjoy the new books for most of the school year.  Please consider supporting our fundraiser.

Coffee & Donuts are back
Isn't it wonderful to have a delicious cup of coffee and a donut waiting for you at Café Perpetua after the 9:30 Mass? This is only possible thanks to some wonderful and dedicated volunteers. Most of them have done it for many years. In order for this wonderful tradition to continue we need your help. Here is what you'd be doing: pick up donuts at Safeway, set up, make coffee & lemonade and clean up after.
You can do it once a month or less often, whatever your busy schedule allows. Please contact Christoph at the parish office if you're willing to assist.

Special Intentions
We remember those in need of our prayers:
  • Jim Tschann, grandfather of Charlotte and William, who is recovering from a heart attack and subsequent surgery
  • Terry Lewis, father of Mrs. Stacey Hinton, who is ill
  • Alumni parent of St. Perpetua School who is undergoing medical treatment
  • Eveline Adhiyasa, grandmother of Kyle Jones, who is ill
