WELCOME TO THE 2018-2019 SCHOOL YEAR!!! We have had a wonderful first week of school so far and I enjoyed seeing so many of you last night at Back to School Night. Tonight, at 7pm all Jr. High parents are invited to join in the church to hear about Jr. High curriculum followed by grade specific information in their classrooms.
 
Every family is invited to attend our Back to School Mass and BBQ at 4pm Sunday on the upper lot. We will gather at the Pavilion area and sit under the Pavilion awning. You may want to bring your folding chairs or blanket as this is a popular event. Thank you in advance to Parent Association for coordinating our potluck dinner and to all those who have already rsvp'd.

The start of the school year is a time for teaching and reminding, especially with car pool procedures. Please remember that before school, supervision begins at 7:40. 
  • If you need to drop off your student(s) before 7:40, please sign them into Panther House
  • Pick up at the end of the day is in the classroom. Students in grades 1-8 will be dismissed to the youngest student in the family or carpool. 
  • We ask that parents wait in the plaza prior to the 3:00 bell before going to the outside classroom doors

Student 'Permission To Walk From Campus' at Dismissal

If we had your written permission for your student to walk off campus at dismissal, please reply to Suzanne's email skozel@csdo.org extending that permission for this 2018-2019 school year.  

  • If you'd like to give your student this new permission for this 2018-2019 school year, please email Suzanne Kozel skozel@csdo.org.  
  • 'Walk Off-Campus' students will be released from their classrooms at 3:15 (12:15 for noon dismissal days) to ensure that they can safely exit campus after carpool has concluded.
Yard Duty Sign Up
Please help us provide necessary yard duty coverage for our lunchtime recess.  We rely on your parent participation to ensure we have appropriate adult coverage for a lunch/recess.
  • ** Please sign up for your yard duty assignments before September 15th!  Many families have not yet signed up for their selected yard duty dates **
  • If you have to cancel your shift on Sign-Up-Genius, it is your responsibility to find a substitute for your assignment

Medications at School
If your child takes medications (prescription or non-prescription) that need to be kept on campus, you will need to bring the medications (in the original container) as well as the ' Request for medication to be taken during school hours' form on the school website. Please be aware that if the medicine is a prescription, a doctor's signature is also required on the form.  If you want your student to carry their epi-pen, you will need to also complete the 'Permission To Carry' form, which also needs a physician's signature.
Used Uniforms
Our selection of used uniforms (located on the table outside the front office) is available for anyone until Friday, 8/24.  Remaining items will be donated on Monday, 8/27.
Virtus 'Safe Environment' Training
The Oakland Diocese has set up a new tracking procedure for Virtus 'Safe Environment' training.  Your certificate is good for three years from the date of completion.  If you need to renew your clearance, you received an email on 8/3 from Kim Fogarty with a link to the Virtus online program site.

'All Clear' Status for Yard Duty & Parent Volunteering
In order to fulfill your yard duty assignments, go on class field trips, or volunteer in the classroom, you need to have an 'All Clear' status.  'All Clear' requires three clearances:

St. Perpetua 'Tee-Off Fore Technology' Tournament
Our 15th Annual 'Tee-Off Fore Technology' will be on Monday September 17th at the  Moraga Country Club

Please initially sign up for ONLY TWO yard duty shifts.  Once families have signed up     for their two slots, the Sign-up Genius will be reopened for families to sign up for additional       shifts that can count toward volunteer hours.
Cafe Perpetua & The Garden of Learning
Cafe` Perpetua
Welcome back! I hope you had a wonderful summer break with your beautiful families!  

Cafe` Perpetua will be starting its 16th year on Friday, September 21st! The cafe` is open on Friday mornings when school is in session from 7:30 to 9:30. We feature homemade breakfast items such as cinnamon coffee cake, seasonal scones, muffins, and breads, frittata, breakfast sandwiches, cinnamon rolls, chocolate cake (a cafe` favorite!) and specials of the day! During fall we also have organic jams, basil pesto, salsas, pies, zucchini breads, and veggies and flower arrangements from the Garden of Learning.  The cafe` is a great place to catch up with old friends, and if you are new to the school, it's a great place to meet new ones! 

Since its inception, Cafe` Perpetua is the sole fundraiser for the Garden of Learning!  By supporting the cafe` you are supporting your children's garden. 

HELP WANTED!  The cafe is looking for someone to do the grocery shopping for the cafe`s perishable items that are needed each week. The job consists of shopping once a week at Trader Joe's and stocking the cafe` either on Wednesdays or Thursdays before 3:00. This is an easy way to fulfill your volunteer hours! Garden of Learning
The Garden of Learning is celebrating its 15th year! I'm looking forward to seeing the students back in the garden starting next week.

Dear Parents,
 
WOW!  It was so good to see your excited children all dressed up on the first day of school! I was amazed by how many of them grew so much over the summer.  I know you all are just settling in to your schedules.  Please don't forget to fill out your registration form, submit $80 fee, and send in your August and September calendars. A great idea is to take a quick photo of your calendar so you can remember what you signed up for. Kindly remember whenever possible to email Mrs. Kenney and Mrs. Kozel when you know your child will be using Panther House that afternoon. (If you have not already scheduled those hours on your calendars.) It helps everyone, especially your children to transition into a more enjoyable, stress-free afternoon.
 
For our extended care, we've got lots of fun activities scheduled throughout the year. Look forward to hearing more about Halloween face painting, 6th Annual Pumpkin Run, Up-cycled building project, Christmas gift-making workshop, Valentine-making workshop, a Winter Hawaiian party, Lucky St. Patrick's party, Earth Week activities, and much more.

BILLING
  • The billing-month ends on the 20th of each month. Therefore your August Panther House attendance will be shown as a line item in your September invoice.
  • Reminder: After school class fees have been reduced, but your child's hourly attendance will be billed to you instead. The net cost will be the same as it has been in prior years. This just makes the bill keeping easier for us. 
ALTERNATE PICK-UP REMINDER
Don't forget to let me know if you have someone else pick up your child that is not on your emergency list. Please email me their name, relationship to your child, and phone number in case of emergency. As a safety precaution, we cannot release your child without written authorization. This includes school families who may have carpool duty for sports practice, et.

Children's Choir
Welcome to the new school year ~ I hope everyone had a restful summer!
I am Lisa Holmes and I am beginning my second year as St. Perpetua's music teacher. We will be starting a children's choir to sing at the monthly Rise and Shine masses and at school masses throughout the school year.  The group will be comprised of 4th - 8th grade students from both the school and the church community. We will have fun sharing our voices and our fellowship!

If your child enjoys singing, even if they have had no training outside of school, I would like to invite them to join me on Monday afternoons from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. in the RRC. The school students will also have the opportunity to rehearse on Tuesdays at lunchtime in the RRC. 

If your child is interested in joining the group even after we have started, please let me know.  We will always make room!  Information regarding program start date, permission slips, etc. will be coming in the next few weeks.

Looking for Library Volunteers!
  • Interested in a quiet, zen-like volunteer job with flexible hours?  The Library is looking for a few folks to help with Shelf Maintenance for an hour, every other week, either at drop-off or pick-up time.  If you like to organize things, this may be the job for you.
     
  • If you prefer the fun of working with kids in a creative environment, you might enjoy helping Mrs. Hinton with Literacy Night.  
     
  • If you're not ready to commit to any one job, you can sign up to be a library sub.  The regular library volunteers will contact you when they cannot be in the library.  You'll be the hero who swoops in to save the day.

2018-2019 St. Perpetua Student Leadership
 
Are you a 5th, 6th, 7th, or 8th grader interested in joining Student Leadership? The elections and application process will begin TOMORROW! Here's what you need to know:
 
Any 5th, 6th, 7th, or 8th grade students interested in running for Student Government office or joining Leadership must attend an informational meeting TOMORROW at snack recess in the 8th grade classroom. For students unable to attend tomorrow, there will be a second chance meeting on Tuesday at snack recess. Students who wish to run for office or apply to join leadership can only access the necessary forms at the meeting!
 
8th grade* students with Leadership experience may run for President. *If there are no 8th grade candidates, the position will open to 7th grade.
7th or 8th grade students with Leadership experience may run for Vice President. 
6th, 7th, or 8th grade students may run for Treasurer**, Communications, Spirit, Athletics, or Ecology. **The office of Treasurer does additionally require prior Leadership experience.
Students in 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade may also choose to apply to join Leadership.
 
All students who run for office or join Leadership will also need to meet certain academic and conduct requirements.

2018 Family Participation Program / Parent Volunteer Hours
St. Perpetua School relies on parents to share their time, talents and treasures. Volunteer participation is necessary as tuition revenue does not cover operating costs of the school. Parent participation ensures the success of social events and school programs as well as nurturing the opportunity make new friendships.  Click here for more details. 


  • TK-only, Kindergarten-only, and single parent families have a 15 hour requirement) 
  • All other families are required to complete 35 volunteer hours.

PING-PONG PARTY!

Instead of date night at a restaurant and the movies, grab a paddle and enjoy an evening of ping pong, round robin style, tasty food with amazing side dishes made by your hosts. You will leave feeling satisfied after playing lots of ping pong or being sent to the beer pong table after losing during regular play. Tournament ping pong rules will apply. Play takes place at the Haggerty home in Lafayette. Bring it on!

Our young musicians gave a wonderful recital in the spring and the Instrumental Music Program is now going into its 25th successful year!  If you would like to have your child learn to play a musical instrument at school (or possibly in your home), the registration form can be found on the school website, here, or under "This Week's Flyers."  Lessons at school will begin mid-September.  Please send registration forms or questions about the Music Program to Ryan Habegger at ryan@imcmusiclessons.com.
SCRIP
Hello Families,
Welcome to to 2018-19 school year!  
Your Scrip profit requirement helps Parent Association bridge the gap between tuition revenue and education costs.  In addition, through your Scrip participation above and beyond your requirement, you can earn tuition credit for your family with your continued Scrip purchases! 
  • Our Scrip tracking year is January 1st - December 31st.
  • All Families will receive a 'profit-to-date' recap in mid-October
  • New families entering school in the fall have a $100 PROFIT requirement for the August-December timeframe of their first year.  If you reach a $200 profit level, all profit above that amount results in a school credit for you.
  • Returning families have a $250 PROFIT requirement.  If you reach a $350 profit level, all profit above that amount results in a school credit for you. 
  • Payment for scrip purchases can be made by check (preferred) or credit card.  If payment is made by credit card, associated bank service charges will be deducted from your scrip profits.
  • Families can choose to do a 'buyout' to fulfill their requirement.
We follow a  bi-weekly ordering schedule.  Here is the order & delivery schedule dates.

We carry four local merchant cards in the office for convenient pick up:  Diablo Foods, Lunardi's, Mangia Ristorante, and Cooperage.  The full roster of scrip cards (literally hundreds!) can be found on the ShopWithScrip site.
