2018-2019 Bulletin # 4

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU to all who helped to make our start of school so wonderful! The Back-to-School Mass and BBQ on Sunday was a great way to bring our community together and I am so grateful to the Parent Association team that coordinated that event, especially Gina Miller and the BBQ chefs! I enjoyed seeing so many families spending time with one another and fostering friendships!

These events are not possible without the dedication and enthusiasm of our parent volunteers. Please remember to be a cleared volunteer and assist with any school activity, you must have fingerprint clearance on file with the Oakland Diocese, TB clearance, and Virtus course completion. Fingerprinting only needs to be completed one time and we will have a representative from the Diocese at school tomorrow morning to assist with this process from 7:30-9:00 am. We will also have VNA here tomorrow for TB clearance, 7:30-9:00 am.

Monday, September 3, is a school holiday in honor of Labor Day. I hope you have an enjoyable 3-day weekend!

Creator Lord, the source of all wisdom and purpose, and the blessing of those who labor; be with us in our work to guide and govern our world. Give to all people work that enhances human dignity and bonds us to one another. Give us pride in our work, a fair return for our labor, and joy in knowing that our work finds its source in you; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

If you'd like to give your student this new permission for this 2018-2019 school year, please email Suzanne Kozel skozel@csdo.org.
  • 'Walk Off-Campus' students will be released from their classrooms at 3:15 (12:15 for noon dismissal days) to ensure that they can safely exit campus after carpool has concluded.
Supervision in the Garden of Learning
It is imperative that children be accompanied by an adult (not an older sibling) when they are in the Garden of Learning.  First and foremost this is for the safety of your children. Secondly, supervision would help with a reminder for the children to put the garden back in order as they found it when they entered.  After Sunday's Back-to-School Mass the garden was in such disarray.  Please help keep the garden open to all by supervising your children when they are enjoying the Garden of Learning!
Medications at School
If your child takes medications (prescription or non-prescription) that need to be kept on campus, you will need to bring the medications (in the original container) as well as the ' Request for medication to be taken during school hours' form on the school website. Please be aware that if the medicine is a prescription, a doctor's signature is also required on the form.  If you want your student to carry their epi-pen, you will need to also complete the 'Permission To Carry' form, which also needs a physician's signature.

'All Clear' Status for Yard Duty & Parent Volunteering
In order to fulfill your yard duty assignments, go on class field trips, or volunteer in the classroom, you need to have an 'All Clear' status.  'All Clear' requires three clearances:
  • fingerprinting clearance ~ click here for Oakland Diocese form
  • Virtus 'Safe Environment' online class completion (good for 3 years) ~ Click here for link
  • TB clearance (good for 4 years) ~ Click here for clearance form

The Counselor's Corner
I hope your children have eased into the school year with joy! I have loved reconnecting with students, parents and staff this year and I look forward to this year working again as the school counselor.

My goal is to support the philosophy of St. Perpetua School, to "work in partnership with parents, the primary educators, for the development of the whole child: spiritually, academically, socially, and physically." I am here to promote wellness and ensure that students have resources to help them understand ways to better take care of themselves, connect with others and be successful in their own goals. I am also available to meet with students when they are facing challenges. Some common issues that arise are boundary setting with friends, self-esteem, meeting academic potential, grief/ loss, anxiety and adjusting to change.

Additionally, I will be organizing 2-3 Parent Education Nights this year. I welcome your input on relevant topics you would like to see discussed.

Please be sure to complete a NEW Counseling Permission Slip. Even if you completed one last year, I do need a new one on file this year to meet with your student(s). I will keep the new permission slip on file for your upcoming years at St. Perpetua.

I welcome your feedback and encourage you to contact me with any ideas or concerns. I am available for conferences by phone or in person. You can reach me by email (kbacher@csdo.org) or phone (284-1640 ext. 118). I look forward to working with your children and you this year.

Cafe Perpetua & The Garden of Learning
Cafe` Perpetua
Welcome back! I hope you had a wonderful summer break with your beautiful families!

Cafe` Perpetua will be starting its 16th year on Friday, September 21st! The cafe` is open on Friday mornings when school is in session from 7:30 to 9:30. We feature homemade breakfast items such as cinnamon coffee cake, seasonal scones, muffins, and breads, frittata, breakfast sandwiches, cinnamon rolls, chocolate cake (a cafe` favorite!) and specials of the day! During fall we also have organic jams, basil pesto, salsas, pies, zucchini breads, and veggies and flower arrangements from the Garden of Learning.  The cafe` is a great place to catch up with old friends, and if you are new to the school, it's a great place to meet new ones!

Since its inception, Cafe` Perpetua is the sole fundraiser for the Garden of Learning!  By supporting the cafe` you are supporting your children's garden.

Garden of Learning
It's been a wonderful week in the garden as it has been filled with the sounds of students! By the end of this week every student will have had the opportunity to have their garden orientation and tour during their garden class time!
TK's first time in the Garden of Learning!

Panther House

Dear Parents,

SEPTEMBER is almost here! Don't forget to send in a Panther House September calendar. Take your best guess as to what your child's September calendar looks like. I understand that a family's schedule ebbs and flows as you figure out Fall routines like soccer practice, etc.. We are flexible to change with that. When plans change, just email Mrs. Kozel and myself, so we know when children are coming. We always look for your child when they are scheduled to be at Panther House.

FALL AFTER SCHOOL CLASSES

Children's Choir
Welcome to the new school year!  I hope everyone had a restful summer. My name is Lisa Holmes and I am the St. Perpetua School music teacher.  I am starting a children's choir this year comprised of 4th - 8th grade students from both the school and the church community.  We will have fun sharing our voices and our fellowship!

If your child enjoys singing, even if they have had no formal training, I would like to invite them to join me on Monday afternoons from 3:30 (or ASAP after school) - 5:00 p.m. in the RRC beginning September 10th and continuing through April 15th. We will focus on learning songs to share/perform at the 9:30 Rise and Shine masses throughout the school year.  If your child is interested in joining the group even after we have started, please let me know. We will always make room!

Please contact me at lholmes@csdo.org if your child is interested, click here for the registration form and send it into the school office.  Thank you!!
