THANK YOUto our wonderfulstudent leadersfor coordinating our Halloween paradeon Monday! Due to their planning and organization we had a very successful gathering! Thank you also to theParent Associationfor the new sound system that was used to make the announcements and play the music!
Our4th gradersdid an amazing job in helping us celebrateAll Saints Dayyesterday at Mass. We hope you will join us this Sunday at9:30amfor the Rise and Shine Mass where we will continue to celebrate our Saints!
For several weeks, information about our scheduleddisaster drillhas been included in the family bulletin. Parents should plan to have their students picked up between11:00 and 11:45. Onlyauthorized adults with valid IDwill be allowed to pick up students.Reminder thatPanther House is closedin the afternoon.Thank you in advance for your cooperation as we work to ensure student safety.
During the month of November, all students will participate in a unit of study through the Diocesan Safe Environment Department entitled"Circle of Grace". This program, approved by the Bishop, will reinforce student safety and making good choices.
Many of you received aletter from Fr. Johnlast week as he walked the carpool line. If you didn't get a copy, I have included itherefor you. It is imperative that all parents remember that our school is located in the middle of a neighborhood and therefore, we need to be considerate drivers coming and going to campus.

Annual Disaster Drill
We will hold our Annual Disaster DrillonFriday, November 4th.Although we hope to never need to implement these procedures, it is imperative that we all review and practice the various aspects of the plan.On that day students are picked up between11:00 and 11:45in the new plaza area at the end of school building near the cross walk.Clickherefor the Emergency Drill student release form that you can fill out in advance andBRING TO DISASTER DRILL PICK-UP.
Students will only be released to those listed on their student profile andALL adults MUST show their ID.If someoneotherthan the parent or another personalready
on your Emergency/Authorized Pick-up list will be picking up your child on the day of the Disaster Drill, please email the office with that authorized person's name.Panther House is closed that afternoonso that we can review drill as an entire staff.

Our school community works diligently to generate Scrip profit.We are asking that purchases bepaid by check or cash whenever possibleto avoid credit card fees.

Medications at School
If your child takes medications (prescription or non-prescription) that need to be kept on campus, you will need to bring the medications(in the original container)as well as the'Request for medication to be taken during school hours'form on the school website. Please be aware that if the medicine is a prescription, a doctor's signature is also required on the form.
1st Annual St Perpetua Mother/Son Dance

We are proud to present the1st Annual St Perpetua Mother/Son DanceonFriday, November 4th!

Please join us for a fun night out with your son(s) and dance the night away as the DJ spins their favorite tunes. There will be plenty of opportunities to ham-it-up: show your moves during the dance-off;lip-synch to the latest and greatest; and keep the momentum going by indulging in your favorite sugary treat.

Be sure to enjoy dinner beforehand and please note this event is fancy-free dress.

Festivities will be held at the Lafayette Community Center in their new building, named the Jennifer Russell building from6:30 - 9:30pm. Tickets are $85 and $25 per additional son.

Taste of Kindergarten
Taste of Kindergartenis a very special event that St. Perpetua offers our community two times a year. Our first session is thisFriday, November 4th.If you have anincoming TK or kindergartener, or know of an family interested in joining our school community, please join usthis Friday!
Incoming transitional kindergarten and kindergarten age children and their parent(s) are invited to get a taste of kindergarten for a morning! Enjoy a casual conversation with the school principal and staff, discussing our kindergarten program and common topics including kindergarten readiness, emotional maturity, creating smooth transitions and more. Parents will then accompany their children into the St. Perpetua School kindergarten classroom, under the supervision of our teaching staff, to experience a short lesson and project. You are invited to visit Cafe St. Perpetua and enjoy fresh baked goods, made from our local garden ingredients, and freshly brewed coffee. School tour provided and parents are given time to socialize. Parents must remain on campus during this special event. You will need toregisterfor thisfree event!Please registerhere.

Panther House
Fourth Annual Panther House Pumpkin Relay Run
Join us as we continue this annual tradition of keeping fit and having fun onThursday, November 17thfor the Fourth Annual Panther House Pumpkin Relay Run! Come over to Panther House at3pm. We will be doing our Relay Run on the lower lot in front of the church (weather permitting) from3:30-4pm.
This is available to all our registered Panther House families. Panther House fees will apply. You must sign your child out from Panther House afterwards. No extra registration forms or fees are required. However please let us know in advance if your child will be joining us that day! A monthly calendar, quick call to the office or email to Mrs. Kenney (lkenney@csdo.org) is all it takes.
We have less than half of the November calendars of our regularly scheduled families. Did you forget?Downloadand fill out one please. November is a short school month, with a week off for Thanksgiving. Think about filling out a December calendars now too. It's never too early to plan. You are only billed for the time used in Panther House.

Read to Succeed - St. Perpetua Reading Challenge
November 1, 2016 -January 25, 2017

Students in grades K-6 are challenged to read six (6) hours over the next three months. Any type of reading counts, except for school work.Please encourage your child(ren) to participate!Student Reading Logs are available on the school website athttp://www.stperpetuaschool.org/programs/library/_read_to_succeed_2016-2017 and should be coming home soon. Return the Student Reading Log to Mrs. Hinton as soon as your child is done reading. The Library bulletin board will track classes progress, during the month of January. We would like to see 100% participation from every class. Each student in grades K-6 who completes a Reading Log will receive a free ticket to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom for Summer Break. Thanksgiving Outreach
Each year, St. Perpetua donates Thanksgiving baskets to the Monument Crisis Center to help local needy families enjoy the Thanksgiving Holiday. In order to help those families, we ask that each student bring inone itemaccording to theclass assignments below, as well as$3 towards the turkey gift cards.

All classes are collecting the following food items for Thanksgiving "Baskets":

TK & Kindergarten-16 oz. can cranberry sauce (2 cans)
First Grade-15 oz. can whole kernel corn (2 cans)
Second Grade-12 oz. can evaporated milk (2 cans)
Third Grade-Instant mashed potatoes
Fourth Grade-Stove top stuffing mix (for turkey) (2 pkgs)
Fifth Grade-Pumpkin Pie Mix (make sure it's thepie mix)
Sixth Grade-Ready crust graham (not frozen)
Seventh Grade-14 oz. can whole green beans
Eighth Grade-Large rectangular roasting pan (big enough for a turkey)(1 or 2)

Family Participation Program
St. Perpetua School relies on parents to share their time, talents and treasures. Volunteer participation is necessary as tuition revenue does not cover operating costs of the school. Parent participation also ensures the success of social events and sustains school programs. Each family is required to complete35 volunteer hoursand report those hours to the volunteer chair, Ellen Drey (ellen.drey@gmail.com).
Are you an 'All Clear' Volunteer?
As a reminder, youcannot volunteerfor any school or class activities (including yard duty)until your are placed on the "all cleared" list by completing three items for the office.Clickherefor information on LiveScan fingerprinting, Safe Environment Training, and TB Clearance.

St Perpetua Outreach committeeis hosting a"Share the Warmth" eventthe weekend ofNov 5 & 6th. There will be a collection ofall warm winter things: coats, hats, mittens, sox, sweatshirts, sweaters, boots, blankets, comforters, bedspreads, flannel sheets, sleeping bags - even tents & tarps!
Sizes are needed from infant to adult - especially children's items as they grow so quickly same as our own do!!
Items can be brought onNov 4, 5 or 6andput near the doors of the church hall
Some of the organizations that will benefit from these warm items:
  • Friendly Manor Oakland - women
  • Hillcrest Community Church - clothes closet in Pleasant Hill
  • No One Left Behind - refugees from Afghanistan: these men worked as interpreters for the U.S Government in Afghanistan so were no longer safe & had to leave their country. Each family member was only allowed one 50# suitcase, so not a lot of possessions to start new life in US. Many children are in need of warm coats & twin size blankets
  • Trinity Center - Walnut Creek
  • White Pony Express - serving East Bay
  • Winter Nights
  • Youth Homes - Lafayette
