2018-2019 School Bulletin #1

Each morning I come in to school and I am pleasantly surprised by a new bulletin board that has been completed, a delivery of school materials that has arrived, or the presence of a teacher, excited for the new school year!
Next week all staff members are back with a full schedule for the week! On Monday, those faculty members new to St. Perpetua, or who have a new position here, will gather for new staff orientation. Tuesday throughThursday we have on-site staff meetings to review policies, best practices, safety, final details for the start of the school year, participate in a mindfulness presentation, and hear a presentation from Fr. John Kasper.On Friday, we will gather at the Cathedral of Christ the Light with all the other schools throughout the diocese to celebrate the start of a new school year!
OnMonday, August 13th, we look forward to welcoming ournew familieswith a special gathering at 6:30 in the school library. We will share"everything you need to know about St. Perpetua"and answer any questions to help with the start of the school year.

Finally, I hope to see you forcoffee on August 20th. We will gather in the plaza near the front of the school once the students are in their classrooms.

  • Tuesday, August 21st is Back to School night for TK-5 parents at 7pmin the church with classroom presentations following.
  • Wednesday, August 22nd is Back to School Night for grades 6-8at 7pmwith a presentation in the Church and then homeroom teachers will present in the classrooms.

Important 2018-2019 St. Perpetua School Handbook Updates

Medications at School
If your child takes medications (prescription or non-prescription) that need to be kept on campus, you will need to bring the medications(in the original container)as well as the'Request for medication to be taken during school hours'form on the school websiteon the first dayof school. Please be aware that if the medicine is a prescription, a doctor's signature is also required on the form. If you want your student to carry their epi-pen, you will need to also complete the'Permission To Carry'form, which also needs a physician's signature.
Virtus 'Safe Environment' Training
The Oakland Diocese has set up a new tracking procedure for Virtus 'Safe Environment' training. Your certificate is good for three years from the date of completion.If you need to renew your clearance, you received an email on 8/3 from Kim Fogarty with a link to the Virtus online program site.

'All Clear' Status for Yard Duty & Parent Volunteering
In order to fulfill your yard duty assignments, go on class field trips, or volunteer in the classroom, you need to have an 'All Clear' status. 'All Clear' requires three clearances:
  • fingerprinting clearance ~ clickherefor Oakland Diocese form
  • Virtus 'Safe Environment' online class completion (good for 3 years) ~ Clickherefor link
  • TB clearance (good for 4 years) ~ Clickherefor clearance form
Student School
If you did not order a SchoolToolBox student supply kit (order deadline has passed), you can find the supply lists for Kindergarten - 8th Grade on our school website.Clickherefor link.No student supplies are needed for TK.
We have a selection of 'gently used' uniforms outside the front office.Come by and help yourself!

Safety Reminder
Each year we are required by the Environmental Protection Agency to inform the school community of the presence of asbestos containing materials in the school building. Our asbestos consultant, in accordance with the Environmental Protection Agency's Asbestos Emergency Response Act (AHERA), inspects annually all asbestos-containing building materials within St. Perpetua School. No asbestos abatement occurred during the 2016-2017 school year. All of our maintenance repair activities are conducted in accordance with E.P.A. guidelines throughout the year. Asbestos-containing building materials (ACBM) within the school's facilities are in good condition and pose no threat to the health and safety of our students and staff. All of the ACBM is addressed under a comprehensive Operations & Maintenance Program.

Our 15thAnnual 'Tee-Off Fore Technology' will be on Monday September 17th at the Moraga Country Club

There are four ways to get involved..

This tournament is the major fundraiser for all of our school's technology needs. Help us provide the tools for your children to excel in technology!

We are here to support your family and its busy life. There are only eight days when we are not open during the school year. I suggest jotting them down on your personal calendar now, so you know when we are open.Panther House Closureslink.
Due to rising costs, we will need to take a rate increase. Rates have not increased in almost a decade, and our childcare fees are still a bargain.New Rates: $6/hour with a monthly scheduled calendar; $9/hour for drop-ins.
6th Grade and New Junior High Families
We encourage you to sign up for ourOrganizational Skills Class with Ms. Schwark, our 8th grade teacher. It is an excellent chance for Junior High students to learn how to juggle multiple teachers and subjects, while brushing up their organizational skills at the beginning of the brand new school year. The class will begin with two classes during the first full week of school (Tuesday, Aug. 27 and Thursday, Aug. 29). Downloadhere,print, and send into the office. Don't miss out! It will be a fun way to kick-start a successful school year.

Here is the Fall selection of classes: Computer Coding, Chess, Hip Hop, Science of Toys, Creative Arts, Junior High Organization. Flyers will be available next week.
Snack Donation
The link is up for you to sign up for your snack donation. Do it now and get your pick of the days you want to volunteer. Remember that Family Service Hours (2 hours) are available by donating one day's worth of snack for up to 60 afternoon students. The food can be reheated in the microwave and should be dropped off at 8 a.m.

2018 Family Participation Program / Parent Volunteer Hours
St. Perpetua School relies on parents to share their time, talents and treasures. Volunteer participation is necessary as tuition revenue does not cover operating costs of the school. Parent participation ensures the success of social events and school programs as well as nurturing the opportunity make new friendships.Clickhereformore details.
